Administration Staff

Our administrative staff have a broad range of experience in medical administration and take great pride in their work. They work exceptionally hard to keep the practice running as smooth as possible, given the occasionally unpredictable nature of paediatrics.

 
 

Pauline is our senior administration officer. She has several years of experience working with the Mater Paediatric Neurology team and now with Gold Coast Child Neurology. She has extensive experience in dealing with complex patients and understands the stress undergone by parents and the children. Charmaine has been working with the team at Gold Coast Child Neurology for 1 year. She has a good understanding of the complexities of complex paediatric patients and is one of our main reception staff.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Before making an appointment

Your child will need a referral letter from your GP or specialist to see a paediatric doctor at paediatric synapse clinic. GP referrals are generally valid for 12 months only. After 12 months, you will need your GP to make a new referral.  You will also need a new GP referral letter if you are attending for a new problem.

Please Note: referrals provided by a specialist are only valid for 3 months.

 

Allied health

Although a GP referral is not essential for most allied health services (e.g. Dietitician, Psychology, Physiotherapy), in some services can be claimed through Medicare with a GP referral. If you are not sure, please call our administration staff to ask before your appointment.

 

To book an appointment

All referrals need to be triaged by our specialists before any appointments are made to ensure the urgency of your referral. For urgent referrals, please ask your GP to contact us directly.

Our administration staff will phone or alternatively you can call our rooms to arrange the appointment. if we have had no contact after 30 days a letter will be sent to the referring medical practitioner and the referral will be discarded.

Once your appointment has been arranged you will receive an appointment letter by email. 

 

What to bring to your first appointment:

  • Medicare card
  • private health insurance card
  • any previous assessments or reports for your child (e.g. mri reports, eeg reports, pathology results, speech/psychology/cognitive assessments, school reports)

 

Fees & Rebates

Please be aware that Paediatric Synapse Clinic is a private billing practice.  Payment for services will be required in full on the day of an appointment, with Medicare rebates claimable afterwards.

We have facilities for eftpos, credit card and cash payments, although personal cheques are not accepted. There are facilities for online Medicare claims to be made at the time of your consultation.

If you have registered for and have reached the Medicare safety net (contact Medicare), you will be able to claim a greater rebate on your consultation.

Please be aware the private health funds generally do not offer any rebates for outpatient medical appointments.

Fees will be discussed at the time of booking the appointment.
